In 1944, Frank DeBisschop, a toolmaker, an inventor, and an entrepreneur, founded Thomaston Special Tool. He made the “impossible” a reality by thinking creatively and building groundbreaking tools and dies with his four sons, all talented toolmakers and businessmen. Together, they expanded their business and began fabricating stamped components and small mechanical assemblies. The Torrington Company
acquired the business in 1967 and soon became a key supplier to major medical device companies, including US Surgical Corp. (now Covidien) and Johnson & Johnson. Scott DeBisschop, one of Frank’s sons, managed the medical device business for The Torrington Company. He acquired the business in a spin-off in 1994 and founded, aptly named, Sequel Special Products as a tribute to his father.
